In January 2025, REACH of Macon County hosted the Red Sand Project during Human Trafficking Prevention Month. This interactive event aimed to raise awareness about human trafficking by inviting participants to fill sidewalk cracks with red sand, symbolizing solidarity with survivors and highlighting the vulnerabilities that can lead to exploitation. The event took place on January 25, 2025, at the Town of Franklin in Franklin, North Carolina.
The Red Sand Project is a participatory artwork created by Molly Gochman that uses sidewalk interventions and earthwork installations to create opportunities for people to question, connect, and take action against vulnerabilities that can lead to human trafficking and exploitation.
By participating in this event, community members joined a global movement to combat human trafficking and support survivors.
