Forensic Program at R.E.A.C.H.

Our forensic program provides careful medical documentation and evidence collection for injuries resulting from assault or abuse. This service is performed by specially trained professionals who understand both the medical and legal importance of accurate records.

This service:

• Includes photographs, detailed written documentation, and collection of physical evidence.
• Can support survivors in legal cases or protective order hearings, if they choose to pursue them.
• Is available even if a survivor decides not to involve law enforcement immediately.
• Prioritizes the survivor’s safety, dignity, and consent throughout the process.

As part of the forensic exam, survivors may be offered medications to prevent certain health concerns that can arise after an assault. These medications are provided based on individual needs and medical eligibility.

This service may include:

• Emergency contraception to reduce the risk of pregnancy.
• Prophylactic treatment for sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV prevention.
• Tetanus or other indicated vaccines, depending on the nature of injuries.
• A chance to discuss follow-up care and referrals for ongoing health support.

All medications are provided with the survivor’s informed consent and in a supportive, trauma-informed environment.

Referrals to Advocacy, Legal, and Medical Support

After a forensic exam, survivors are not alone in navigating the next steps. Our team connects individuals with trusted resources to ensure ongoing care and support.

Referrals may include:

• Advocacy services for emotional support, safety planning, and guidance.
• Legal resources to understand reporting options, protective orders, or court processes.
• Medical follow-up with providers who can support ongoing physical and mental health needs.

Survivors choose which referrals they’d like to pursue, and all connections are made with their privacy, consent, and well-being in mind.
